Spring Showers Bring May Flowers – And Mice! Tips To Control Pests During The Rainy Season

Posted on

With the warm showers of springtime come unwanted visitors: mice. Rodents and many other pests look to come in out of the rain, which makes your home, vehicles, and property more vulnerable to an infestation. Protect yourself and be vigilant to prevent mice from making your home theirs.

Some tips to prevent mice during wet weather and spring showers include:

Keep mice from getting in. Before mice seek refuge from the rain in your home, keep them from being able to gain access inside. Fill in any cracks along the roofline, in your crawlspace, near plumbing lines, and around doors and windows with a combination of silicone caulk and pieces of steel wool. The steel wool is an excellent deterrent that rodents can't gnaw through.

Don't forget your car. Mice will also try to get inside vehicles, so keep your car parked away from hedges, woods, and foliage when possible. Close the windows when exiting the vehicle and keep something smelly, like mothballs, cedar chips, or peppermint essential oil on the floor.

Turn mice off. Try to make your home less appealing to mice in the first place. For instance, get a cat, clean up food debris, and clear away trash to prevent mice from getting comfortable inside your space. Pick up your pet's food dishes at night and cover them to keep mice away.

Identify your problem areas. It doesn't hurt to be proactive with a couple of traps in your problem spots. These could be behind the stove, near your sink, or along the home's foundation. Set electronic traps for a quick result that is easy to dispose of, even for the squeamish.

Pop the hood. Make sure to pop the hood of your vehicle if it is parked for any length of time or stored in a garage. Mice won't build nests in the light, so opening the hood prohibits them from finding dark places to hide near the engine.

Hire an exterminator. If you suspect that mice are coming in out of the rain, give yourself some peace of mind and call one of your local pest control services. One mouse can become many mice in no-time, and it is not uncommon for a single female mouse to have dozens of babies over the course of one year. Contact a pest professional and avoid an infestation in your home.

Talk to pest control services about methods and approaches to resolve your mouse problem. If you are seeing mice or noting activity, such as droppings or noises, there is no time to waste. Contact the experts today and protect your home against an infestation.
