How To Get Rid Of Ants And Prevent Them From Returning

Posted on

Ants are teeny tiny nuisances, but in large numbers they are an army of pests that can take over the food in your home and make you crazy trying to get rid of them. These little insects come in from outside in search of food and a source of water. You may find them near entrances of your house, coming in from under your house, or if they've already found their way in, you may find them just about anywhere. It's important to find where they have been coming in, set traps or spray, and then prevent them from returning. See below for helpful tips to get rid of these pests.

Set Traps

You can invest in ant traps that can be purchased at most grocery, hardware or big box stores. You can find them in all shapes, sizes, brands and types. These traps have poison inside them that the ants eat (or take back to their nests) and then kills them. The traps have tiny holes that you have to punch in. If you have pets or small children, you may not want to have these traps visible or anywhere within reach.

Spray

Spray a pesticide around your home to kill the ants both outside and inside your home. If you aren't too keen on spraying a pesticide inside your home, especially if you have pets and children, spraying just the outside will help keep the ants from coming in. Spray the pesticide around the perimeter of your home. Some of these pesticides help keep other types of insects out of your home as well.

Clean Inside And Outside

Keeping your home clean can help prevent the ants from coming inside your home. Sweep your floors often, remove garbage from your house and mop up spills immediately. Also be sure to clean up the outside of your home as well. Keep brush piles away from your house and remove mulch from around your foundation. Ants will make their nests inside the mulch and in brush piles (as will other pests). Also remove garbage from around your home.

Call The Exterminator

If you have an issue with these insects, finding them all over your home and cannot get rid of them, you may have an infestation and should call an exterminator for help. They have the tools, know-how and appropriate pesticides to get rid of these insects for good. An exterminator will go over your home thoroughly to find the source of the problem, rather than just getting rid of the ants you can see, they will get rid of the nests as well.

Ants may seem harmless, but in no time at all they can take over your home invading your pantry and the rest of your kitchen. Set traps, clean up your home and call an exterminator, like one from Bug Stompers, Inc., if you need professional help.
